The IDIOM Self Service Model
IDIOM Lite is a 'personal' version of the IDIOM Decision Manager, designed for analysts and developers who want to harvest the benefits of decision driven development without needing to buy the full featured product.
IDIOM Lite allows unconstrained decision model development but does not include an accessible on-board source code generator. With the Personal Edition, the generator is provided as a low cost service. With the Commercial Edition, you purchase a generator.
The version of IDIOM Decision Manager provided as IDIOM Lite includes the following features:
- decision model designer,
- formula builder,
- schema administration,
- in-line testing,
- auto design documentation (PDF format),
- and model export/import from the same license only.
IDIOM Lite does NOT include the following enterprise level features:
- user registration and login,
- client and/or server based code generators,
- export and import of decision models between licenses,
- multiple concurrent designer access to the repository,
- design change or audit logging,
- production release management for generated source code,
- ‘Test Executive’ for regression testing,
- IDIOM Forms and IDIOM IQ Workbench plugins.
For these features you will need to either purchase one of the 'Customer Licensed Product' editions, or contact IDIOM under the 'Technology Partner' program
IDIOM provides a substantial online and PDF manual and free access to the IDIOM best practice 'Knowledgebase' for self service education and trials.
You will need to 'get your hands dirty' with this approach, and build one or more decision models as part of your own self managed product evaluation. We suggest reading the demonstration notes and watching the video here before getting started with your first decision model. The IDIOM Decision Manager in-line debugger should be used to test any developed models to a reasonable degree of accuracy. When a decision model has been built and tested to satisfaction, it can be remotely generated as C# or Java code, and then implemented through one or more of a variety of methods, including:
- in-line method calls;IDIOM supplies a range of adapters or reference code samples that can be used to implement these integration methods for free - these are available from the Customer Resources library.
- web services;
- message queue services (eg MSMQ, MQ Series, Sonic ESB);
- dll's;
- plug-in's for a wide range of process management tools;
- and application platforms including Portrait, Talend, Flex, Domino, CA-Plex.
IDIOM Lite Personal Edition

The small charge for generation of code is the only chargeable aspect of IDIOM Lite Personal Edition. These charges will apply after the free trial period, and after any additional free period that may be obtained under various campaigns (campaign references are entered on your registration).
The current charges are: $USD10 per 1,000 lines of code, either Java or C#, for the first time generated - reducing to $USD1 per 1,000 lines of code for any subsequent generation.
Example:
- if you submit a decision model that generates a 5,000 line program, the initial cost is $50The IDIOM Decision Model that calculates the charge, with accompanying description, can be found in the Customer Resources library for your reference.
- if you modify the decision model and resubmit the program so that it only generates 4,000 lines, the cost is $4
- if you modify it again so that it generates 6,000 lines, the cost is $15 - this is calculated as $1 per thousand for all code that has already had an initial generation charge (5,000LOC*$1/1000=$5), plus $10 per thousand for code that has NOT already had an initial generation charge (1,000LOC*$10/1000=$10)
The 'lines of code' count is the count of program statement terminators in the program. Blank and comment lines are not counted.
These charges apply after any trial period expires, and are subject to any special offers or other discounts. IDIOM provides extended trial periods under a number of partner 'campaign' programs. During all trial periods, you will not be charged for any generated code, which is yours to keep regardless. During the free period, we will still advise you of what the charge would have been (but for the free period) for your reference only. All charging is done through PayPal for your security.
Two service calls will be provided free; thereafter service calls may be charged at a rate of $NZD50 per 15 minutes or part thereof. The IDIOM 'Knowledgebase' of best-practice tips and techniques is also freely available for you to use.
IDIOM Lite Commercial Edition
At any time, as an IDIOM Lite Personal Edition user you can purchase an on-board generator, either C# or Java. Each generator is $5,000 (USD for worldwide purchase, AUD for Australia, NZD for New Zealand). IDIOM Lite Personal Edition receipts for the same license will be rebated at $0.50c in the dollar up to a maximum of $2,500 when purchasing a generator. Software subscription is available at 18% per annum. IDIOM has an active development program, and Software Subscription is recommended.
The generator is installed locally and is unconstrained. With the on-board generator, you also get the Test Executive, which provides additional testing capability.
As with IDIOM Lite Personal Edition, generated source code is yours to keep and use without legal constraint, including commercial resale.
